Ed and his brother, Ken, have always farmed. “The farm has always been number one to us,” Ed said. “Our heart and soul are in the farm.” But for nearly 30 years, the brothers had Decker Trucking as well. “We signed up for the Bulk Oil program in 1999, when we were hauling food-grade corn around the Midwest,” Ken said. “And back then, getting bulk oil in a pump wasn’t common… when we were approached about the program, the convenience and cost blew us away.” They signed up and never looked back; and even now, using what they say is 20 percent of the oil they used to, with the trucking operation, they still appreciate the program’s convenience.

Ed’s son, Nick, now farms in southern Champaign County, Illinois, with his dad and uncle. “The Birkey’s Bulk Oil program gives us just one less thing to worry about,” Nick said. “We do as much maintenance on our equipment ourselves as we can, and so having oil handy without being concerned about spilling any and wasting product is just not a factor in our day to day lives anymore.” Ken elaborated, “We don’t waste a drop now.
